D'Tigers Handed Tough Path in FIBA World Cup Qualifying Campaign

Nigeria's D'Tigers have been handed a demanding route in the next phase of the FIBA Africa Basketball World Cup Qualifiers after being drawn in Group E alongside Cameroon, South Sudan, Cabo Verde, Tunisia, and Guinea.

The Nigerian side will kick off their qualifying campaign against regional rivals Cameroon on August 27 before facing South Sudan a day later.

D'Tigers will wrap up the first qualifying window with a crucial clash against Cabo Verde on August 30.

The Group E schedule also sees Guinea take on South Sudan and Tunisia face Cabo Verde on the opening day.

Cameroon will square off against Tunisia on August 28, while Cabo Verde will meet Guinea. The final day of the window will feature Guinea against Cameroon and Tunisia versus South Sudan.

Nigeria enters the qualifiers with encouraging head-to-head records against two of their first three opponents.

D'Tigers have won three of their four previous meetings with Cameroon and remain unbeaten against South Sudan after winning both earlier encounters.

Cabo Verde, however, has consistently posed problems for Nigeria. The teams have met six times, with D'Tigers recording just one victory, making the August 30 fixture one of the key contests in the race for qualification.

With places at the FIBA Basketball World Cup on the line, Nigeria will be looking to make a strong start against familiar rivals before attempting to reverse their fortunes against Cabo Verde in what promises to be a highly competitive qualifying campaign.

A positive start in the opening qualifying window could prove crucial to D'Tigers' hopes of securing a place at the FIBA Basketball World Cup. The team will be aiming to build on its strong record against Cameroon and South Sudan while overcoming its recent struggles against Cabo Verde.
