Curry, Green Lead Vintage Warriors Comeback to Stun Clippers in Play-In Thriller

Posted : 16 April 2026

Stephen Curry delivered a decisive late three-pointer and Draymond Green produced a series of crucial defensive plays as the Golden State Warriors staged a dramatic comeback to defeat the Los Angeles Clippers 126-121 in the NBA play-in tournament. The win kept their playoff hopes alive and extended their season by at least two more days.

The Warriors overturned a 13-point deficit in the final stretch, sparked by Curry’s return to the court. He scored 11 of his game-high 35 points in the closing minutes, leading a surge that stunned the Clippers after a difficult start to the game.

Golden State now faces the Phoenix Suns in another elimination matchup, with the winner securing the Western Conference’s eighth seed and a first-round series against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.

Head coach Steve Kerr praised Curry’s impact, saying the performance reaffirmed why the star guard remains central to the team’s identity. Kerr also highlighted Green’s defensive brilliance, describing his effort as a defining factor in the comeback victory.

Curry’s season has been disrupted by a knee injury that sidelined him for 27 games, while the Warriors have also been hit by injuries to key players, including Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody. Despite those setbacks and a difficult regular season, Curry returned to lead the team through the play-in stage.

The Clippers initially controlled the game and built an early double-digit lead, but Curry found his rhythm in the third quarter before taking over late. Veterans like Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford also contributed key baskets to keep Golden State within reach.

Green ultimately closed out the game with elite defensive plays, including late steals and a game-sealing stop against Kawhi Leonard. His performance on Leonard drew praise from both teammates and opponents, with the Clippers star acknowledging the difficulty of getting shots off.

Warriors coach Kerr later described the victory as one of the most meaningful of his tenure, calling it a reminder of the team’s championship mentality despite an aging core and a challenging season.
