Curry and Hield Lead Warriors Past Rockets in Game 7

Posted : 05 May 2025

Stephen Curry described the Golden State Warriors' Game 7 victory over the Houston Rockets as a test of their resilience, after a tough 103-89 win in the final matchup of their first-round Western Conference playoff series. The Warriors had initially led the series 3-1, but the Rockets forced a decider after tying it at 3-3.

Curry scored 14 of his 22 points in the final quarter, while Buddy Hield stood out with a game-high 33 points, including nine three-pointers, propelling the Warriors into the Western Conference semi-finals where they will face the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Curry emphasized the collective effort, noting that the team had to push through external criticism and focus solely on executing during the crucial final game. He praised Hield’s performance and highlighted the contributions from the entire roster. Curry also credited the squad's ability to silence doubts and stay mentally strong in a hostile environment in Houston, saying they had to "dig deep" for the full 48 minutes.

Jimmy Butler, who was acquired mid-season from the Miami Heat, made a significant impact in the victory, tallying 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Curry acknowledged the rapid development of team chemistry since Butler's arrival, adding that their Game 7 performance was a statement of their growing cohesion. With this win, the Warriors completed the first phase of their playoff mission and avoided becoming another team to lose a 3-1 lead.

In other playoff action, the Indiana Pacers defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-112 to open their Eastern Conference semi-final series with a 1-0 lead. Andrew Nembhard led the Pacers with 23 points, closely followed by Tyrese Haliburton with 22.

Despite being considered underdogs, the Pacers handed the top-seeded Cavaliers their first loss of the postseason, following Cleveland's first-round sweep of the Miami Heat. Haliburton said the team was focused on controlling their effort and gaining momentum against the conference’s best.
