Club Africain officially punched their ticket to the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) playoffs on Tuesday. They achieved this by defeating JCA Kings 79–74 in a high-stakes Sahara Conference matchup in Rabat. The Tunisian side had to dig deep to secure their third consecutive win of the tournament.
The JCA Kings entered the game winless but played with immense desperation and physical presence. They dominated the glass throughout the evening and outrebounded Club Africain 65–42. This interior dominance allowed the Kings to build a significant 15-point lead just before the halftime break.
Despite the Kings' control of the boards, their downfall was rooted in ball security. They committed 18 turnovers compared to only four by the Tunisian giants. These errors allowed Club Africain to stay within striking distance despite shooting just 32.9% from the field.
Aminu Mohamed was the standout performer for the winning side as he carried the offensive load with 21 points. While star player Omar Obada had a quiet scoring night, he provided a crucial spark in the second half. His difficult bank shot in the fourth quarter gave Club Africain their first lead and shifted the momentum.
JCA Kings’ Jonathan Cissé made history by becoming the first player in the 2026 Sahara Conference to score 30 points. His historic individual performance was not enough to save his team from their third straight loss. The Kings led 37–24 at halftime but saw that advantage vanish during a 10-0 Club Africain run in the third quarter.
Club Africain power forward Jamelle Hagins praised his team’s resilience after the final whistle. He noted that the squad showed great character even when their shots were not falling. Hagins admitted the Kings' big men were very active and caused significant problems in the paint.
JCA Kings guard Robinson Opong remained optimistic about his team's progress despite the defeat. He stated that the group is improving and believes they can still compete at the highest level. The result leaves the Kings at the bottom of the standings while Club Africain sits comfortably at the top.
The remaining three playoff spots from the Sahara Conference will be determined in the upcoming fixtures. Fans in Rabat witnessed the most competitive game of the conference so far as it required an extra five minutes to decide. Club Africain now looks toward the post-season as the Kings fight to keep their campaign alive.
