CJ McCollum has agreed to a one-year contract extension worth $21 million with the Atlanta Hawks, according to his agent, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. The deal also includes a trade kicker, confirmed by Sam Goldfeder of Excel Sports Management.
The veteran guard was approaching free agency, with his previous contract set to expire on June 30. The extension ensures he remains with Atlanta after being acquired in a January trade from the Washington Wizards in a move involving Trae Young.
Since joining the Hawks, McCollum has played a significant role in their resurgence, helping the team secure a playoff berth with a strong late-season run that included 18 wins in 20 games. His experience proved vital during the postseason, where Atlanta pushed the eventual NBA champions, the New York Knicks, to a competitive first-round series.
McCollum delivered several standout performances in the playoffs, including a 32-point outing in Game 2 in New York and a clutch 15-foot fadeaway jumper that sealed Game 3, giving Atlanta a brief series advantage.
Over the course of the season, the 34-year-old guard averaged 18.7 points per game while shooting 35.7% from three-point range across 41 appearances with the Hawks. He also extended his remarkable streak of three-point shooting consistency, making at least 150 threes for an 11th consecutive season—an unmatched run since 2015–16.
