CJ Fulton’s NBA Dream Takes Flight with Timberwolves Summer League Call-Up

Posted : 01 July 2025

For CJ Fulton, a basketball-obsessed kid from Belfast, the dream of one day reaching the NBA once felt out of reach. Now, at just 22 years old, that dream is closer to becoming a reality as the talented point guard prepares to join the Minnesota Timberwolves for the NBA Summer League—a pivotal opportunity for undrafted players to showcase their potential on the biggest stage.

Fulton has already made his mark in U.S. college basketball, first at Lafayette and later with the Charleston Cougars. In his senior season, he averaged 7.8 points and 6.5 assists per game, establishing himself as a reliable playmaker. Though he wasn’t selected in the recent NBA Draft, his performance earned him a coveted Summer League spot with Minnesota—a chance to prove he belongs among the elite.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Fulton admitted the NBA had never been part of his initial post-college expectations. “I never thought I'd be in this position,” he said. “It was always about contracts or leagues in Europe. Then the NBA workouts came, and I couldn’t turn those down.”

The journey to the Summer League began unexpectedly. While on vacation in Los Angeles, Fulton received a message from his agent that the Timberwolves wanted him for a workout. That quickly turned into a trip to Minnesota, followed by another session with the Denver Nuggets. However, it wasn’t until he returned home to Belfast that the life-changing call came: Minnesota had seen enough and wanted him on their Summer League roster.

Fulton, whose father Adrian once represented Ireland in basketball, humbly credited the workout for opening the door. “I had a workout there, and it must have been alright,” he said with a smile. “I was buzzing. I had a feeling something might come after the draft, and I’m over the moon. I’m just excited to get going.”

The NBA Summer League serves as a testing ground for rising talents, giving undrafted players like Fulton a platform to impress coaches, scouts, and executives. While his path to the NBA is still unfolding, CJ Fulton’s determination, talent, and humility have already taken him further than he imagined—and he’s not done yet.
