Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis to miss multiple games with soleus strain, game 5 confirmed absence

Posted : 01 May 2024

Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis is slated to miss multiple games due to a right soleus strain he sustained during Game 4, sources reported on Tuesday. The Celtics confirmed that Porzingis would be absent for Wednesday's Game 5 in Boston due to the injury, but they did not provide a specific timeline for his return.

This injury mirrors the calf strain that has sidelined Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo during this postseason. Porzingis incurred the injury during the first half of Monday's Game 4 victory in Miami. While attempting to drive after receiving a pass from Jaylen Brown, he visibly experienced discomfort, ultimately limping off the court without any apparent contact from another player.

Following the game, Porzingis was seen leaving the arena with a walking boot on his right foot and was scheduled for further imaging on Tuesday. Acquired by the Celtics last offseason, Porzingis played a crucial role during the regular season, averaging 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, contributing to Boston's league-leading record of 64-18. Despite his absence, the Celtics hold a 3-1 series lead against the Miami Heat and have an opportunity to clinch the series at TD Garden in Game 5.
