Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and the Boston Celtics halted Detroit’s franchise-record-tying 13-game winning streak on Wednesday night, edging out the Pistons 117–114 in a tightly contested matchup.
Detroit, sitting atop the Eastern Conference, missed an opportunity to surpass the record shared with their 1989–90 and 2003–04 championship squads—a remarkable position for a team that just two seasons ago set an NBA record with 28 straight losses.
Brown powered Boston with 33 points and 10 rebounds, while White delivered 27 points, including 11 crucial points in the closing minutes to counter Cade Cunningham’s outstanding 42-point performance.
Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff acknowledged the disappointment but emphasized that the team is still growing and aims to peak later in the season.
The game’s dramatic finish saw Cunningham fouled on a late 3-point attempt, but after sinking the first two free throws, he missed the third, allowing Boston’s Payton Pritchard to secure the rebound and seal the victory at the line.
Detroit never got a final shot off, as Boston intercepted the inbound pass. Cunningham admitted the team badly wanted the historic 14th win but stressed the importance of regrouping for the long season ahead.
Pritchard contributed 16 points as Boston picked up its fifth win in six games, while Detroit’s run had been tied only days earlier with a win over Indiana.
