The Cleveland Cavaliers delivered a dominant performance to sweep the Miami Heat 4-0 in their first-round playoff series, advancing to the Eastern Conference semi-finals with a resounding 138-83 win. Led by Donovan Mitchell’s 22 points, the Cavaliers overwhelmed their opponents, with strong contributions from De'Andre Hunter, Ty Jerome, and Evan Mobley, who scored 19, 18, and 17 points respectively. The victory marked the fourth-largest margin of victory in NBA playoff history.
The 55-point rout also set a new record for Miami’s worst-ever playoff defeat, eclipsing their previous low of 37 points, which occurred earlier in the same series. Speaking after the game, Mitchell said the Cavaliers had come into the match focused on maintaining intensity for the full 48 minutes. Miami coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged his team had been thoroughly outplayed, saying the Cavaliers reached a level his side couldn't match.
Cleveland now awaits the outcome of the Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers series to determine their next opponent, with Indiana currently holding a 3-1 lead. The Cavaliers’ commanding display throughout the series positions them as a serious threat in the Eastern Conference as the playoffs progress.
Meanwhile, in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors edged out the Houston Rockets 109-106 at home to take a 3-1 lead in their own first-round series. Jimmy Butler, returning from injury, scored 14 of his 27 points in the final quarter, while Brandin Podziemski contributed 26 points, including six three-pointers.
Despite trailing at halftime, the Warriors surged ahead with a powerful run in the third quarter and held off a late rally from the Rockets, who missed a game-tying shot in the final second. Game five is set to take place in Houston on April 30.
