Cavaliers Rally Past Pistons in Overtime Thriller to Take 3–2 Series Lead

The Cleveland Cavaliers produced a dramatic comeback to defeat the Detroit Pistons 117-113 in overtime on Wednesday night, taking a 3–2 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Cleveland overturned a nine-point deficit in the final minutes of regulation to force overtime and secure a crucial road win.

The Cavaliers, who had previously struggled away from home in the playoffs, trailed 103-94 with under three minutes remaining before finishing the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run. They then carried that momentum into overtime, closing the game on a 23-10 surge to complete the turnaround.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson praised his team’s resilience, highlighting their mental toughness and ability to remain composed under pressure. He said the group continues to grow in its belief that no situation is beyond recovery.

Star guard Donovan Mitchell also credited the team’s experience in tight playoff moments, saying they were able to draw confidence from previous situations in the series. Mitchell contributed 21 points, including seven in overtime, to help seal the win.

James Harden delivered one of his strongest playoff performances since joining Cleveland, finishing with 30 points, six assists, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Max Strus added 20 points off the bench, along with key defensive plays that helped limit Detroit star Cade Cunningham in the closing stages.

Cunningham still led the Pistons with 39 points and nine assists, but was restricted late by Strus, who helped hold him to just two points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

The Cavaliers now return home with a chance to close out the series in Game 6, while the Pistons face elimination but have already shown resilience in overcoming deficits earlier in the postseason.
