Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark voiced her frustration with the officiating after her side suffered an 88-75 defeat to the Golden State Valkyries, arguing that a series of missed foul calls contributed to both the loss and an injury she sustained during the game.
The heated moment came during the second quarter when Clark drove to the basket for a lay-up and collided with Valkyries center Kiah Stokes. Although she completed the play, no foul was called, and Clark appeared to be in discomfort as she limped back up the court. Moments later, teammate Aliyah Boston was whistled for a foul at the other end, prompting an emotional reaction from the Fever guard.
Television cameras captured Clark confronting referee Gerda Gatling during a stoppage in play, angrily demanding a foul call and insisting she had been repeatedly fouled throughout the contest. She briefly left the court after the exchange before returning to complete the game despite the injury.
After the match, Clark revealed she had suffered a leg contusion on the play in question. She expressed disbelief that the officials had ruled she initiated the contact, arguing that the collision left her in pain for the remainder of the game and should have resulted in a foul being awarded.
The incident marks another chapter in Clark's ongoing frustrations with officiating this season. It is the second time in recent weeks that she has publicly criticised referee Gerda Gatling, while Fever head coach Stephanie White has also questioned how games involving the WNBA star are being officiated.
Despite returning to the floor, Clark endured a difficult shooting night as Indiana slipped to defeat on home court. The loss adds to the Fever's recent struggles, while Clark's comments are likely to reignite debate over officiating standards and the physical treatment of one of the league's biggest stars.
