Rivers Hoopers, Nigeria's representative at the 2024 Basketball Africa League (BAL), made a significant announcement on Tuesday as they disclosed their arrival in the city of Dakar, Senegal, in preparation for the Sahara Conference phase. This phase promises to be a challenging yet exciting chapter in their BAL journey.

As they gear up for the Sahara Conference, Rivers Hoopers find themselves in a formidable group, facing off against heavyweights such as former champions US Monastir, 2023 runners-up AS Douanes, and Rwandan champions APR. The competition within this group is expected to be fierce, with each team vying for a coveted spot in the next stage of the tournament.

Before departing for Dakar, Senegal, Rivers Hoopers conducted their final training session at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Lagos. This session served as a crucial opportunity for the team to fine-tune their strategies and iron out any remaining challenges before facing their opponents in the Sahara Conference.

Their first challenge in the Sahara Conference will come against the home team, AS Douanes, on Saturday, May 4th, 2024. This initial match sets the tone for Rivers Hoopers' journey in the conference, and they are undoubtedly eager to make a strong impression from the outset.

In preparation for the Basketball Africa League, Rivers Hoopers have bolstered their roster by securing the services of top-tier players such as Devine Eke, Kelvin Amayo, John Wilkins, Will Perry, and Peter Olisemeka. These additions bring depth and talent to the team, enhancing their competitive edge as they strive for success in the tournament.
