Free-agent guard Ayo Dosunmu has agreed to a new long-term deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, committing to a five-year contract worth $112 million that includes a player option in the final season, according to reports.
The Timberwolves made retaining Dosunmu a priority following his impressive postseason impact, especially after reshaping their roster earlier in the night by trading three-time All-Star Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets. Team officials worked quickly to secure the agreement, finalizing the deal in collaboration with Dosunmu’s representatives.
Dosunmu originally joined Minnesota in February after a trade from the Chicago Bulls that sent four second-round picks and former lottery selection Rob Dillingham in the opposite direction. Since arriving, he quickly established himself as an important rotation player alongside star guard Anthony Edwards.
His influence grew significantly during the playoffs, where he averaged 15.6 points over a 10-game stretch. One of his standout moments came in Game 4 of the first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, when he erupted for 43 points off the bench to help secure a major upset win.
However, his postseason momentum was hampered by a recurring right calf injury. Dosunmu missed key playoff games due to the issue and struggled to regain full rhythm upon his return, averaging 9.4 points on inefficient shooting during a second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.
Despite the setback, Minnesota views Dosunmu as a key part of their future core as they continue building around their emerging backcourt and playoff ambitions.
