Asisat Oshoala Backs Oklahoma City Thunder For Consecutive NBA Titles Following Dominant Playoff Start

Posted : 20 April 2026

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has tipped the Oklahoma City Thunder to retain their crown as NBA champions. The Bay FC striker shared her insights following the Thunder’s commanding start to the 2026 postseason. Oklahoma City opened their title defense on Sunday with a massive 119-84 win against the Phoenix Suns.

The defending champions entered the playoffs as the top seed in the Western Conference. They finished the regular season with a league-best record of 64 wins and 18 losses. This dominant form has made them clear favorites to repeat their 2025 success. Oshoala noted on social media that the team currently enjoys a smooth path through the early rounds.

The Nigerian international specifically highlighted the Thunder's depth and momentum as key factors for their success. She suggested that the road to the Western Conference Finals looks uncomplicated for the top seeds. However, she did identify one major obstacle that could ruin their plans for a dynasty. Oshoala named the San Antonio Spurs as a legitimate threat to Oklahoma City’s dominance.

The Spurs, led by star Victor Wembanyama, secured the second seed in the West with 62 wins. Oshoala believes the championship will remain with a Western Conference team regardless of the final matchup. She stated that if the Spurs fail to reach the final stages, the Thunder will likely go back-to-back. The striker also mentioned that the Denver Nuggets might struggle to keep pace this year.

Oklahoma City's Game 1 victory displayed the balanced scoring and defense that defined their regular season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren have been instrumental in maintaining the team's championship standards. The Thunder now lead the first-round series 1-0 as they look to capitalize on their home-court advantage at the Paycom Center.

Standing impact remains high as the Thunder aim to sweep the Suns to save energy for later rounds. Most analysts agree with Oshoala that the West is the stronger conference this season. The winner of the OKC and Phoenix series will eventually face the winner of the Lakers and Rockets matchup. For now, the Thunder remain the team to beat in the quest for the 2026 Larry O'Brien Trophy.
