ASC Ville de Dakar have emerged as the dominant force in Senegalese basketball after securing back-to-back Nationale 1 Masculin titles in 2024 and 2025. Their rapid rise has positioned them among the country’s elite clubs, supported by a strong basketball structure that includes a successful women’s team.
Although their debut in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) showed promise with wins over top teams, they ultimately fell short of reaching the playoffs, finishing with a 2–4 record.
Despite that setback, the team is returning to the BAL with renewed ambition, aiming to become one of Senegal’s most successful representatives in the competition. Their squad boasts significant experience, featuring players with international and BAL pedigree such as Solo Diabate, Ater Majok, Axel Toupane, and Samba Fall.
Leadership has also evolved, with veteran coach Moustapha Gaye stepping into the head coach role, bringing decades of experience at both club and international level.
Meanwhile, in Côte d’Ivoire, the newly rebranded JCA Kings are making waves as a rising force in African basketball.
Formerly known as Jeunesse Club d’Abidjan, the club claimed its first domestic league title in 2025 and has quickly built a reputation for its professional and forward-thinking approach. Founded in 2018, the team has focused on developing young talent while competing at a high level.
The JCA Kings impressed during the Road to BAL qualifiers, winning seven of their eight games and securing a place in the 2026 BAL season. Their strong performances in both Abidjan and Praia demonstrated maturity and consistency, establishing them as serious contenders despite their relative inexperience.
As Côte d’Ivoire’s newest representatives in the BAL, they aim to make a significant impact and prove that emerging teams can compete with established powers.
Led by head coach Stephane Konate, a former African champion and MVP, the team combines local talent with international influence. Key players such as Mohamed Krah and Mahamane Coulibaly played vital roles in their qualification campaign, although the club has yet to confirm new additions ahead of the tournament.
Together, ASC Ville de Dakar and JCA Kings represent the growing strength and depth of basketball across West Africa, with both teams eager to leave their mark on the continental stage.
