Dallas Mavericks power forward/center Anthony Davis is expected to miss several weeks due to a left adductor strain, sources confirmed on Sunday. His absence could extend for up to a month, further complicating his debut with the Mavericks after a trade that saw superstar Luka Dončić move to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Davis had been dominant in his first game with the Mavs, contributing 26 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks before leaving with 1:37 remaining in the third quarter of the Mavericks' victory over the Houston Rockets.
Following the injury, Davis was ruled out for the Mavs' upcoming game against the Sacramento Kings. While he had downplayed concerns after the game, assuring reporters that the injury wasn’t serious, the timing of the issue is unfortunate, as Davis had just returned from a previous abdominal strain that had kept him sidelined for five games.
Davis explained that the tightness he experienced in his leg felt like a spasm, and despite efforts to loosen it, it did not improve, though he remained confident it was not a major setback.
Alongside Davis's injury, Mavericks starting forward P.J. Washington is also listed as questionable for the Kings game after suffering a sprained right ankle in the win over the Rockets. Additionally, key bench players Max Christie (right shoulder strain) and Dante Exum (left Achilles tightness) are also questionable, which could further affect the Mavs’ lineup as they adjust to these setbacks.
