Al Ahly teams secure victories in Basketball Africa League action

Posted : 23 April 2024

In Monday's Basketball Africa League (BAL) matchups, both Al Ahly teams, from Cairo and Benghazi, emerged as frontrunners for automatic qualification spots by securing victories over Bangui SC and City Oilers respectively. In the early game, Ahly Benghazi asserted dominance against City Oilers, led by Jo Lual-Acuil's impressive performance in the first quarter, followed by Kevin Murphy's scoring spree in the second, resulting in a commanding 50-24 lead at halftime.

City Oilers fought back in the second half, with Khaman Maluach showcasing his skills and resilience, helping narrow the gap to 56-46 at one point. However, Ahly Benghazi maintained their composure, with Acuil delivering a standout performance supported by Patrick Rembert, securing a 79-68 win despite Maluach's impressive stats of 16 points, 19 rebounds, and 7 blocks.

In the late game, Bangui SC took an early lead against hosts Al Ahly Cairo, with Rolly Fula Nganga and Jimmy Djimrabaye leading the charge. However, Ahly Cairo managed the game well, maintaining a slim 21-18 lead after the first quarter and holding on to a narrow 41-38 advantage at halftime. Despite Bangui's spirited effort, Ahly Cairo seized control in the closing stages, securing an 85-79 victory despite a late surge from Bangui led by Thierry Darlan.

While Ahly Cairo and Benghazi both emerged victorious, they faced stiff competition from their opponents, highlighting the competitiveness of the BAL. As the tournament progresses, teams continue to showcase their skills and determination in pursuit of qualification for the next stage.
