Al Ahly SC and RSSB Tigers Set for Epic Showdown in 2026 BAL Semifinal Clash

A spot in the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) final is on the line as Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly SC faces Rwanda's RSSB Tigers. The high-stakes semifinal match takes place tonight at the iconic BK Arena in Kigali.

Al Ahly SC enters the matchup with deep continental pedigree. They won the 2016 FIBA Africa Champions Cup and claimed the BAL championship trophy in 2023. The Red Eagles aim to make history this season by becoming the very first club to win two BAL titles. They booked their spot in the final four by defeating Senegal's ASC Ville de Dakar 87-76 on Sunday. This crucial victory allowed them to overturn a tight three-point deficit from their first-round quarterfinal meeting.

The RSSB Tigers have enjoyed a meteoric rise under the guidance of head coach Henry Mwinuka. The club was established in 2019 and stepped in late to replace local rivals APR as Rwanda's tournament representatives. Despite losing 99-98 to Moroccan club FUS Rabat on Sunday, the Tigers advanced on aggregate thanks to an earlier 23-point blowout win. Star player Craig Randall II has driven their success; he set a league record with 54 points against Dar City earlier this season.

Statistical metrics show contrasting strengths for both squads ahead of the tip-off. The Tigers boast a lethal offense, averaging 97 points per game compared to Al Ahly's 82. However, the Egyptian side relies heavily on perimeter shooting, averaging 15 successful three-pointers per game while the Tigers manage nine. The battle in the paint features Al Ahly's Nuni Omot and Kevin Murphy matching up against Rwanda's dominant big men Oumar Ballo and Mangok Mathiang.

Tactical adjustments will prove vital as two highly experienced coaches clash on the sidelines. Al Ahly head coach Linos Gavriel brings decades of experience from his time coaching top Tunisian clubs. Meanwhile, Mwinuka is making his head-coaching debut in the BAL after leading the Tigers to the 2025 Rwandan Cup. The winner of this clash will advance to face either Al Ahly Ly or Petro de Luanda in the final.
