Al Ahly Libya Guard Mohamed Sadi Claims Prestigious 2026 BAL Manute Bol Sportsmanship Award

Posted : 01 June 2026

Al Ahly Libya point guard Mohamed Sadi has officially secured the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) Manute Bol Sportsmanship Player of the Year award. The 31-year-old veteran received the individual accolade following the conclusion of the postseason tournament in Kigali, Rwanda. The distinction honors league participants who best exhibit the core principles of sportsmanship, ethical behavior, fair play, and integrity on the hardwood throughout the season.

Sadi enjoyed a highly productive campaign while serving as the primary backcourt anchor for the Libyan powerhouse. The versatile guard posted impressive tournament statistics; he averaged eight points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals per contest. His consistent all-around performance helped steer Al Ahly Libya to a third-place podium finish; they secured the bronze medal by defeating Egypt's Al Ahly SC 106-98 in the third-place playoff match on Sunday.

The experienced playmaker has developed a decorated resume within Africa's premier club basketball tournament over recent years. Sadi initially made his league debut during the inaugural 2021 BAL season while representing Senegal's AS Douanes. He subsequently climbed to the pinnacle of continental basketball by winning the BAL championship championship trophy with Al Ahly Tripoli back in 2025.

Beyond his sportsmanship recognition, Sadi's exceptional defensive work-rate was also acknowledged by league officials and voters. The veteran guard was officially named to the 2026 All-BAL Defensive First Team alongside prominent stars like Childe Dundao of Petro de Luanda and Mangok Mathiang of the championship-winning RSSB Tigers.

League officials confirmed that Sadi's leadership and character made him the ideal recipient for the memorial trophy, which is named after legendary South Sudanese center Manute Bol. The Libyan international joins an exclusive list of past winners; American guard Will Perry previously claimed the honor during consecutive seasons. Sadi's balanced contribution of stellar defense, stable playmaking, and excellent court demeanor cemented his status as one of the most respected players of the 2026 continental campaign.
