ABA Hosts Successful Youth Basketball Development Clinic for Grassroots Coaches in Niger State

The Amateur Basketball Academies (ABA) has successfully concluded a one-day training and trainers clinic for academy instructors in Minna, Niger State. The intensive program took place at the Avant Garde Hotel and the 123 Basketball Gymnasium. The initiative drew 20 academy coaches and grassroots instructors from across the state. This event follows the successful staging of the academy's inaugural national training clinic held earlier in Abuja.

Participants at the clinic were exposed to modern coaching concepts with a heavy emphasis on talent identification. Instructors stressed the critical role that local trainers play in the early growth stages of young basketball players. The technical and tactical sessions were facilitated by a panel of highly experienced basketball instructors. These included Coach Alex Ujoh, Coach Adeka Daudu, Coach Emmanuel Odah, and Coach Oyekan.

The practical sessions covered fundamental player development, physical conditioning, injury prevention, sports psychology, and refereeing. A major highlight of the event was a practical field session involving more than 150 aspiring young basketball players. These youths gathered at the gymnasium to receive direct on-court mentorship and instruction from the trained facilitators. The initiative aims to build a sustainable pipeline that bridges raw talent with elite competitive structures.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President and Founder of ABA, Professor Aliyu Abubakar, urged the participants to fully embrace the movement. Abubakar, who is also a Deputy Comptroller in the Nigeria Customs Service, described the clinic as a strategic national effort. He noted that global basketball powerhouses achieved sustained success by heavily investing in grassroots structures, coach education, and athlete mentorship systems.

The founder also referenced the recent unveiling of the ABA developmental structure and its proposed nationwide league system. He stated that the upcoming ABA League highlights the organization's determination to establish organized grassroots competitions across Nigerian communities. According to Abubakar, the academy remains committed to ensuring that every local community court can produce transformational leaders and future champions.
