2025 BAL: APR Rout Rivers Hoopers in Second Straight Loss for Kingsmen
Posted : 09 June 2025
Nigeria's representative in the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL), Rivers Hoopers—popularly known as Kingsmen—suffered a second consecutive defeat, this time at the hands of Rwanda’s APR. The Nigerian champions, who qualified for the BAL after winning the Zenith Bank Basketball League, had earlier fallen 81-89 to US Monastir in their opening fixture.
Looking to bounce back in their second outing at the SunBet Arena, the Kingsmen hit a major stumbling block as APR delivered a dominant performance from the start. The Rwandan side stormed to a commanding 57-32 lead by halftime, showcasing their offensive strength and defensive discipline.
The third quarter saw APR further extend their dominance, pushing the scoreline to 83-52. Despite the Hoopers’ efforts to claw back into the game, they struggled to find rhythm on both ends of the court.
By the final buzzer, the scoreboard read 104-73 in favor of APR, confirming a comprehensive victory. The loss leaves Rivers Hoopers with a tough path ahead as they seek to revive their campaign in the 2025 BAL and remain in playoff contention.
