2024 AMGA: Nigeria Armed Forces win gold, silver in Basketball

Team Nigeria has claimed gold and silver in the men’s and women’s basketball events, respectively, at the ongoing Africa Military Games in Abuja.


The men’s team won gold via walkover against Cameroon.

The women’s team, on the other hand, succumbed to a loss against Cameroon, who proved to be the superior team, dominating the game with a score of 86-47.


Meanwhile, Tanzania dominated the men’s and women’s marathon events held on Saturday.


Alphonce Simbu of Tanzania (2:17:19), Ethiopian Dedefi Abo Gelato (2:18:31), and Algeria’s Laamedi El Hadi (2:19:59) were the top three finishers in the men’s 42km race.


In the women’s event, Tanzanian Magdalena Shauri raced to victory in 2:36:29, with Ugandan duo Ruth Cheptoyek and Emily Chebet finishing second and third, respectively, in times of 2:41:07 and 2:44:10.


Athletes from 11 countries – Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Algeria, Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Libya, South Africa, Senegal, and host Nigeria – participated in the race.
