World Athletics U-20 Championships: Commonwealth Games Stars Oji, Ezechukwu Spearhead Team Nigeria to Oregon

Team Nigeria has unveiled a 15-member squad for the 2026 World Athletics U-20 Championships in Oregon, United States, with Commonwealth Games medallist Jessica Oji and sprint sensation Miracle Ezechukwu leading the country's medal quest.

The global junior championship, scheduled for Aug. 5 to Aug. 9, will bring together some of the world's brightest young athletics talents in track and field events.

Oji heads to Oregon in high spirits after claiming silver in the women's shot put at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. She will compete in both the shot put and discus throw.

Ezechukwu, who featured in the women's 100m semi-finals and the 4x100m relay at the Commonwealth Games, will contest the women's 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay.

Rosemary Nwankwo and Lucy Nwankwo will join Ezechukwu in the women's 100m, while Success Oyibu and Tejiri Praise Ugoh have been entered for the women's 200m.

Becky Ebiyadi, Faith Ezechukwu and Jecinta Lawrence will compete in the women's 400m, with Chika Bakwunye representing Nigeria in the women's 100m hurdles.

Nigeria has also assembled strong relay teams, with Ezechukwu, Rosemary Nwankwo, Lucy Nwankwo, Success Oyibu and Bakwunye making up the women's 4x100m relay pool, while Ebiyadi, Faith Ezechukwu, Lawrence and Oyibu will feature in the women's 4x400m relay.

On the men's side, Gift Bright and Tejiri Godwin will compete in the 100m, while Bright and Perfect Faye will line up in the 200m.

David Udoh has been entered for the men's 400m, while Precious Opinion will compete in the triple jump.

The men's 4x100m relay squad comprises Gift Bright, Perfect Faye, Tejiri Godwin, Precious Opinion and David Udoh.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) expressed confidence that the young athletes would build on the momentum generated by Team Nigeria's impressive outing at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games as they seek to make their mark on the global stage.

The World Athletics U-20 Championships remain one of the sport's premier developmental competitions, providing emerging athletes with the opportunity to compete against the world's best junior talents while preparing for future senior international championships.

With a balanced squad featuring experienced junior internationals and emerging talents, Team Nigeria will be aiming to deliver strong performances and enhance the country's reputation at the World Athletics U-20 Championships in Oregon.
