World Athletics Tips Ezechukwu and Oyibu for Women's 200m Success at World U20 Championships

Posted : 03 August 2026

World Athletics has identified Nigeria's Miracle Ezechukwu and Success Oyibu as two of the athletes to watch in the women's 200 metres at the ongoing World U20 Championships.

The global governing body highlighted the Nigerian sprinters among the leading contenders after both delivered impressive performances during the 2026 season. Their consistent form has raised expectations of a strong Nigerian challenge in one of the championship's most competitive sprint events.

Ezechukwu heads into the competition as the reigning Nigerian women's 200m champion. She has established herself as one of the country's brightest young sprint talents and will compete with a personal best of 22.77 seconds.

Her performances this season have placed her among Africa's leading junior athletes, giving Nigeria genuine medal hopes in the event.

Oyibu has also enjoyed an impressive campaign. The Baylor University athlete has continued her rapid development in the United States, lowering her personal best to 22.90 seconds during the collegiate season.

Her combination of speed, consistency and international experience makes her another strong contender as she targets a place on the podium.

The recognition from World Athletics reflects the progress both athletes have made in recent months and underlines Nigeria's growing strength in the sprint events at junior level.

Nigeria has traditionally produced world-class sprinters, and the performances of Ezechukwu and Oyibu offer further encouragement for the future of the country's athletics programme. Both athletes will be looking to build on their recent form and make a significant impact against some of the world's best young sprinters.

The World U20 Championships provide an important platform for emerging athletes to showcase their talent on the international stage. Strong performances in the competition have often served as a stepping stone to success at senior continental and global championships.

With two highly rated sprinters in the women's 200m, Nigeria will be hoping Ezechukwu and Oyibu can justify the confidence shown in them by World Athletics and deliver another memorable performance for the country.
