WADA forwards Nigerian and Venezuelan NADOs compliance cases to CAS

Posted : 14 February 2024

Following WADA's ExCo meeting on November 17, 2023, and an update on December 8, WADA provides additional information on endorsing the Compliance Review Committee's recommendations. The NADOs of Nigeria and Venezuela are alleged as non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code.

In the Nigeria case, non-compliance stems from the NADO not addressing crucial anti-doping program requirements following a WADA audit in late 2022. Meanwhile, the Venezuelan NADO failed to meet critical requirements from the Code Compliance Questionnaire.

According to the International Standard for Code Compliance by Signatories, NADOs had 21 days to dispute the non-compliance allegations and proposed consequences. Both NADOs disputed before the deadline, leading WADA to file separate arbitration requests with CAS on February 9, 2024.

Per Code Article 24.1.7, certain Signatories may intervene in CAS proceedings, while others may apply under specific conditions within 10 days of this notice. The alleged non-compliance and consequences won't take effect until CAS makes its ruling.
