Trayvon Bromell Stuns Noah Lyles as Records Fall at Paris Diamond League

Posted : 29 June 2026

Trayvon Bromell produced one of the standout performances of the Paris Diamond League on Sunday by defeating Olympic champion Noah Lyles in the men's 100 metres.

Running from lane eight, Bromell exploded out of the blocks and never surrendered his advantage, crossing the finish line in 9.91 seconds. Lyles endured a poor start that left him with too much ground to recover, forcing the American star to settle behind his compatriot despite a strong finish.

After the race, Lyles admitted his start had cost him the chance of victory, saying it did not unfold as he had expected.

The meeting also witnessed another remarkable performance from Switzerland's Audrey Werro, who continued her outstanding season by winning the women's 800 metres in a Diamond League record of 1 minute 53.80 seconds.

Femke Bol, continuing her transition from the 400m hurdles to the two-lap event, finished second with a personal best of 1:55.60. Werro's winning time moved her closer to Jarmila Kratochvilova's long-standing world record of 1:53.28, set in 1983.

The 22-year-old Swiss athlete admitted she had not anticipated running so quickly this season and credited her rapid improvement to focusing fully on athletics after ending her university commitments. She said her recent performances had significantly boosted her confidence ahead of the major championships later this year.

Pole vault star Armand Duplantis added another victory to his impressive career by clearing 6.13 metres after setting a new meeting record with a successful jump at 6.03 metres, surpassing the previous mark he established in 2021.

Greece's Emmanouil Karalis and France's Baptiste Thiery challenged strongly but were unable to match Duplantis in the closing stages. The Swedish world record holder later attempted to improve his own global mark with three jumps at 6.32 metres but fell short on each occasion.

Botswana's world champion Busang Collen Kebinatshipi also enjoyed a memorable evening, winning the men's 400 metres in 43.54 seconds to establish both a meeting and Diamond League record.

American hurdler Jamal Britt delivered a career-best performance in the men's 110m hurdles, clocking 12.89 seconds. His time ranks among the fastest ever recorded in the event and underlined his emergence as one of the discipline's leading contenders.

Another meeting record fell in the women's 400 metres as Dominican Republic star Marileidy Paulino stormed to victory in 48.79 seconds with a commanding display.

Canada's Marco Arop produced the fastest men's 800m time of the season, surging away from the field to win in 1:41.84. The Olympic silver medallist said he believes he is in the form required to challenge David Rudisha's world record of 1:40.91 if he continues to improve during the remainder of the campaign.

Australia's Cameron Myers completed the evening's list of outstanding performances by winning the men's 1,500 metres in an Oceania record of 3:28.00, one of the fastest times ever recorded over the distance on a night that showcased exceptional conditions and world-class athletics.
