The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Team Nigeria ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled to take place from September 13 to 21.
NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade, encouraged the athletes to give their best and bring honour to the country, stressing that both the commission and Nigerians were firmly behind the team.
“From the beginning, the NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared that Nigeria must get it right in athletics,” Olopade said. “This is a moment of pride. We trust our athletes to compete with determination and secure podium finishes. The commission will continue to support them and stand behind them as they fly our flag in Tokyo.”
Olopade also confirmed he would be present in Tokyo to provide frontline support for the athletes throughout the competition.
The 15-member squad is spearheaded by world record holder Tobi Amusan in the 100m hurdles and long jump star Ese Brume. They will be joined by a strong mix of experienced and emerging talents across sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.
