Tobi Amusan Wins Paris Diamond League Women's 100m Hurdles

Posted : 29 June 2026

Nigerian sprint star Tobi Amusan continued her stellar form during the 2026 athletics season on Sunday. The world record holder stormed to a dominant victory in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the Paris Diamond League. She crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 12.28 seconds to secure the gold medal.

This victory marks the second time Amusan has won a Diamond League race this year. The performance also represents the third time in 2026 that she has clocked exactly 12.28 seconds. She previously recorded this identical world-class time during her appearances in Xiamen and Rabat earlier this season.

Her incredible consistency at the highest level of world athletics underlines her current elite status. Only a handful of sprinters in history have delivered such repetitive world-class times within a single calendar year. Her stability proves that the former world champion is back to her absolute peak condition.

The competitive race at the Stade Charléty saw the Nigerian track icon recover from an early challenge. Dutch athlete Nadine Visser initially took a quick lead over the first few hurdles. However, Amusan showed her trademark acceleration midway through the track to overtake the entire field.

The Nigerian hurdler pulled away comfortably in the closing stages to win by a clear margin. American athlete Grace Stark secured second place with a time of 12.38 seconds. Her compatriot Alaysha Johnson finished close behind in third position after clocking 12.39 seconds.

Earlier in the day, Amusan booked her final spot with a flawless victory in her qualifying heat. She clocked an easy 12.39 seconds in legal wind conditions to finish ahead of the field. That preliminary win set the perfect tone for her magnificent display in the main event.

This crucial win has significantly boosted Amusan's position in the overall 2026 Diamond League standings. She now sits firmly in third place with 13 qualification points. This puts her in a strong position ahead of the prestigious season finale in Brussels, Belgium.

The National Sports Commission praised the athlete for maintaining such elite consistency on the global stage. Her latest triumph sends a powerful message to her international rivals. Her recent performances provide a massive confidence boost before her next international assignment.

Amusan was recently listed to represent Team Nigeria at the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games. The highly anticipated multi-sport championship will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2. The Nigerian sprint star will travel to Glasgow as the reigning champion.

She will be chasing an historic golden hat-trick in the women's 100-meter hurdles event. She won her first Commonwealth gold in 2018 and retained it in Birmingham in 2022. Fans across Nigeria expect another glorious performance from the country's athletics flagbearer.
