Nigeria's athletics enthusiasts are in for a thrilling spectacle as World 100m hurdles champion Tobi Amusan is set to compete in the women’s 100m race at the ongoing Nigeria Athletics Trials, taking place at Yaba College of Technology.
Amusan, who has recently taken renewed interest in the 100m flat event, is expected to be a standout attraction on the final day of competition. Notably, she will take to the track sporting a new low-cut hairstyle.
The final day of the All Nigeria Athletics Championship Trials in Lagos will feature multiple events, including a much-anticipated relay showdown between Nigeria’s and Ghana’s men’s teams. Both countries are vying for qualification to the World Athletics Championships scheduled for September in Tokyo, Japan.
The day's events will include the 200m, 400m, 4×100m, 4×400m, medley, and mixed relay races.
President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, expressed his gratitude to the media and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for their financial and moral support. He also encouraged more Nigerians to contribute to the growth and development of athletics in the country.
Okowa praised the enthusiastic fans who have turned out in large numbers to cheer on the athletes throughout the championship, highlighting their vital role in energizing the competitors.
As the trials conclude, all eyes will be on Amusan and the relay teams as they aim to deliver strong performances and secure their places on the global stage.
