Tima Godbless Shines Bright with 10.91s Sprint at NCAA Championships

Posted : 13 June 2025

Nigerian sprint sensation Tima Godbless delivered an outstanding performance at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, securing a place in the women’s 100m final with a personal best time of 10.91 seconds (+2.2 m/s). The race took place at the iconic Hayward Field in Oregon, drawing significant attention from athletics enthusiasts around the globe.

Competing for Louisiana State University (LSU), Godbless showcased exceptional form and composure in a fiercely competitive field. Her 10.91s sprint not only ensured her qualification for the final but also positioned her among the top collegiate sprinters in the world this season. Though the wind reading of +2.2 m/s exceeded the allowable limit for record purposes, the performance underscored her growing dominance in the short sprint.

Godbless had previously made headlines during the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Florida, where she officially broke the 11-second barrier with a wind-legal time of 10.91s (+1.2 m/s). That run stands as the fastest time in the NCAA this year, and ranks her fourth on Nigeria’s all-time list, trailing only Blessing Okagbare, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Glory Alozie.

A rising star in Nigerian athletics, the 20-year-old has rapidly become one of LSU’s leading athletes. Her recent achievements mark a major milestone in her career and hint at a promising future on the international stage. With the NCAA 100m final approaching, Godbless is a strong contender for the title and may become the first Nigerian to win the event since Blessing Okagbare in 2010.

Her current form also places her firmly in contention for a spot on Nigeria’s national team for upcoming global competitions, including the World Athletics Championships.

As the athletics world watches closely, all eyes will be on Tima Godbless in Friday’s final—where she aims not only for NCAA glory but to further solidify her status as one of the most exciting young sprinters on the global stage.
