Nigerian track and field star Temitope Adeshina secured her first NCAA Outdoor High Jump championship on Saturday. The Texas Tech University junior delivered an immaculate performance at the prestigious Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. She cleared a spectacular height of 1.96m to claim the gold medal and finalize an undefeated individual season.
The high-stakes event turned into a dramatic battle between Adeshina and her primary continental rival, Rose Yeboah of Ghana. Both elite athletes managed to clear the winning mark of 1.96m during the competition. However, the Nigerian sensation took the absolute top spot on the podium via countback; she executed a flawless series by clearing every single lower height on her very first attempt.
Adeshina tried to break the 2.00m barrier later in the event but missed her attempts at 1.99m. She expressed slight disappointment regarding that specific height but noted that she remains grateful for the ultimate victory. This golden performance completed a historic sweep for the athlete, who already claimed the NCAA indoor titles in 2025 and 2026.
The victory brings significant glory to the Texas Tech track and field program. Adeshina is now the first female Red Raider to win the outdoor high jump national title since Zarriea Willis triumphed in 2019. Furthermore, she joins the legendary Sally Kipyego as the only Texas Tech women to win at least three national individual crowns.
Her flawless performance helped the Texas Tech women's team secure a 14th-place overall finish with 21 total points. The outdoor collegiate season concluded with the Red Raiders capturing two team conference titles and seven first-team All-America honors. Adeshina's continuous winning streak firmly solidifies her status as one of the most dominant high jumpers on the international circuit.
