Team Lagos delivered a dominant performance at the National Open Armwrestling Championship, winning an impressive 19 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals to finish as the best team of the tournament.
Under the leadership of Coach Becky Adamoh, the team showcased power, skill, and determination, solidifying Lagos as a stronghold of armwrestling in Nigeria.
The National Open Armwrestling Championship, held at the Adamasigba Stadium in Ibadan, brought together over 120 athletes from across Nigeria, making it one of the most competitive editions of the event.
The championship was not only a battle for national honors but also served as the selection ground for athletes who will represent Nigeria at the 14th Africa Armwrestling Championship in Abuja, July 2025.
Team Lagos arrived in Ibadan on Friday and left today, Sunday, after their remarkable performance.
The athletes wasted no time in making their presence felt, dominating several weight categories and proving their superiority on the national stage.
Speaking after the championship, Coach Adamoh, one of the few female coaches leading a top armwrestling team, expressed immense pride in her team’s performance and their dedication to the sport.
“This victory is the result of hard work, discipline, and commitment. Our athletes gave their all, and I’m proud of what they have achieved. Winning 19 gold medals is a remarkable feat, and it shows that Lagos is fully invested in armwrestling,” she said.
Despite tough competition from teams across Nigeria, Team Lagos stood out with their technical superiority and unwavering resilience.
With over 120 athletes competing fiercely, the championship witnessed thrilling battles, but the Lagos athletes consistently proved their mettle, dominating multiple weight categories.
Looking ahead, Coach Adamoh assured that this victory is just a stepping stone to greater success.
“This win motivates us to aim even higher. We are not stopping here—we are already preparing for the African Championship in Abuja. Our goal is to dominate not just in Nigeria but on the continental and global stage,” she added.
With this outstanding performance at the National Open Armwrestling Championship, Team Lagos has firmly established itself as the team to watch in Nigerian armwrestling.
