A 253-member contingent from Kwara State will depart Ilorin today for the 9th National Youth Games, scheduled to hold in Asaba, Delta State, from August 26 to September 6, 2025.
Briefing journalists at the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Bako, disclosed that the team comprises 173 athletes who will compete in 24 sporting events.
He emphasized that all athletes were carefully selected based on merit and in line with the rules of the organizing committee.
Mallam Bako reaffirmed the state’s commitment to surpassing its previous achievements, adding that the athletes will justify the present administration’s investment in sports development with podium finishes.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Bola Mogaji, charged the contingent to be good ambassadors of the state by strictly adhering to the rules of the Games and putting up performances that meet expectations.
He also assured the athletes of adequate welfare packages to motivate them toward delivering excellence.
Kwara athletes will feature in the following sports: Badminton, Boxing, Chess, Cricket, Cycling, Darts, Fives, Handball, Deaf Athletics, Judo, Karate, Para Powerlifting, Power Athletics, Para Table Tennis, Scrabble, Swimming, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Ayo, Track and Field, and Volleyball.
