The Imo State Liaison Committee for the 2nd Niger Delta Games has mobilized all local government areas to conduct proper screening and scouting of athletes ahead of the games scheduled in Benin, Edo State.
Chairman of the State Liaison Committee and Commissioner for Sports, Obinna Onyeocha, told journalists that the state is fully prepared and determined to improve on its performance at the maiden edition in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He urged all local government areas to ensure the registration of the best athletes who will participate in the state trials.
Onyeocha also confirmed that the committee is collaborating with the 17 accredited state sports associations and their coaches to ensure a successful scouting process. “We have been working closely with recognized sports associations, and we have appealed to all local government areas to promptly register eligible athletes to guarantee full representation for the state,” he said.
Concluding, Onyeocha declared, “Imo State is fully prepared for the games. Young talents from across the state have been identified and mobilized,” signaling strong hopes for an improved performance in the upcoming Niger Delta Games.
