Tara Davis-Woodhall Ends 2026 Season After Severe Concussion in Car Crash

Olympic and world long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall has brought her 2026 season to an early end after suffering a severe concussion in a car accident. The injury rules the 27-year-old American out of this week's World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest.

Davis-Woodhall was involved in a head-on collision while driving to a training session. Although her injuries were not considered life-threatening, the concussion and other injuries have prevented her from returning to training since the accident. Both vehicles were reportedly written off in the crash.

After initially remaining hopeful about competing in Budapest, Davis-Woodhall ultimately decided to end her season following discussions with her team. She expressed her disappointment on social media but remained determined to return to competition after recovering.

The setback comes during an impressive period in her career. Davis-Woodhall won Olympic long jump gold at the Paris 2024 Games before becoming world champion in Tokyo the following year. She had also been preparing for the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship as one of the sport's leading long jumpers.

The Budapest event begins on September 11 and runs through September 13. The new season-ending competition brings together Olympic champions, world champions, Diamond League winners and leading performers, with a $10 million overall prize pool and $150,000 awarded to each event winner.

Davis-Woodhall's withdrawal is another major blow to the inaugural championships after Noah Lyles also ended his season because of injury.
