Runners Rejoice as Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Boosts Prize Money Across Categories

With only eight days remaining until the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, anticipation is growing as organisers confirm generous prize money across multiple race categories, cementing the event’s reputation as Africa’s largest road race.

In the 10km races for men and women, top performers will be rewarded with ₦500,000 for first place, ₦400,000 for second, ₦300,000 for third, ₦200,000 for fourth, and ₦100,000 for fifth. This prize structure highlights the marathon’s commitment to broad participation while recognising outstanding performances beyond the main marathon distance.

Significant rewards have also been confirmed for other categories. The elite 42km international marathon will feature a total prize pool of $250,000, including $50,000 for the winner, with cash prizes extending to the top eight finishers. These incentives reinforce the event’s World Athletics Gold Label status and attract top international competitors.

Local Nigerian athletes stand to gain substantially as well, with the national marathon category offering ₦2 million to the winner and prize money cascading down to the 10th place. This approach ensures wider inclusion and motivates homegrown talent to compete at the highest level.

As February 14 approaches, the combination of global prestige, competitive depth, and attractive rewards is drawing runners from across Nigeria and beyond, setting the stage for another memorable edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
