Posted : 26 October 2026

Elite international runners will compete for a top prize of $8,000 at the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, scheduled for Nov. 14, 2026, in Abuja, as organisers unveil an attractive reward structure for the 21-kilometre race.

The prize package also offers substantial incentives for Nigerian athletes, with the winner in the domestic category set to earn ₦2 million, reinforcing the competition’s commitment to recognising local talent alongside international participants.

In the elite category, the first-place finisher will receive $8,000, while the second- and third-placed athletes will earn $6,000 and $5,000, respectively.

Fourth place attracts $4,000, fifth place $3,000, sixth place $2,000, and seventh place $1,000, while the eighth-placed runner will receive $500.

For Nigerian athletes, the winner will earn ₦2 million, with ₦1.5 million allocated to the runner-up and ₦1 million to the third-placed finisher.

The fourth-placed athlete will receive ₦500,000, while fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth positions attract ₦300,000, ₦200,000, ₦100,000, and ₦50,000, respectively.

The separate Nigerian category provides local runners with an additional incentive to compete for significant financial rewards while testing themselves against a strong international field.

Organisers said the prize structure reflects PremiumTrust Bank’s commitment to supporting athletics development and creating opportunities for Nigerian distance runners to gain recognition through competitive road racing.

The half marathon is expected to attract elite athletes, running clubs, corporate teams, and fitness enthusiasts from Nigeria and abroad, providing a platform for competition, talent discovery, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

With the race date approaching, preparations are expected to intensify, including arrangements for timing systems, medical services, security, and traffic management to ensure a safe and well-organised event.

Organisers have urged interested participants to register through the race’s official registration portal ahead of the competition.

With substantial prizes available across both categories, attention will now turn to the athletes’ final preparations as they target honours in Abuja on Nov. 14.
