Organisers of the 11th Okpekpe International 10km Road Race have declared that the entry deadline for local participants remains fixed for May 23, 2026. The historic road running event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Okpekpe, located within the Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Race Director Zack Amodu urged all interested athletes and fun runners to complete their registration via the official portal before the window closes. He explained that strict compliance with the deadline is essential to facilitate seamless event logistics and proper participant accreditation. Amodu further revealed that official running bib collection and athlete accreditation will take place at the Uyi Ground Hotel in Auchi on May 29, 2026.
The Okpekpe race holds a prestigious status in African athletics as the first road running event in West Africa to achieve a World Athletics Label. It also established a milestone as the first Nigerian road race to be officially measured by a World Athletics certified course measurer. Powered by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, the competition operates strictly under international athletic guidelines, routinely drawing elite long-distance runners from across the globe to Edo State.
Beyond the elite sporting competition, the annual event serves as a major driver for community development, economic growth, and social integration within the region. Amodu highlighted that the marathon has evolved into a premium platform for cultural exhibition, corporate sponsorship, and national pride. Brands continue to leverage the global visibility of the competition to engage with diverse audiences while promoting healthy living standards.
