Nigerian sprint sensations Favour Ofili and Rosemary Chukwuma have been confirmed for the women’s 100 metres event at the 2025 ATX Sprint Classic, scheduled for Saturday, June 28 at Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas.
The highly anticipated event will see the Nigerian duo line up against an elite field featuring some of the world’s fastest women, in what promises to be one of the marquee races of the meet.
Ofili, who has been in remarkable form this season, clocked a season-best of 10.99 seconds (+0.4 m/s) at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in April, positioning her among the world’s top sprinters in 2025. She further cemented her form by setting a world best of 15.85 seconds in the rarely run 150m event at the Adidas Atlanta City Games in May.
Meanwhile, Chukwuma is enjoying a strong campaign of her own. She recently clocked 11.03 seconds at the Star Athletics Sprint Series in Florida earlier this month and remains one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers in the short sprints.
Saturday’s race will mark another chapter in the growing rivalry between the two athletes, both of whom have represented Nigeria at international level and continue to be key figures in the country’s track and field resurgence.
Speaking ahead of the competition, event organizers confirmed that both sprinters are in the final start list and are expected to contend strongly for podium finishes.
The ATX Sprint Classic is a high-level meet on the U.S. sprinting circuit, regularly attracting top-tier athletes in the build-up to major championships. This year’s edition is particularly significant as it serves as one of the final warm-up events ahead of the World Athletics Championships later this season.
