Team Nigeria has taken a major leap toward securing a spot at the upcoming World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, following a record-setting performance in the mixed 4x100m relay.
At the Lefika International Relays, the Nigerian quartet of Chidera Ezeakor, Maria Thompson, James Taiwo Emmanuel, and Obi Jennifer Chukwuka delivered a stunning display of speed and coordination, clocking 41.44 seconds to win gold.
The time not only secured the top spot on the podium but also established a new African Record in the newly introduced event, making Nigeria the first holders of the continental mark in the mixed 4x100m relay.
The impressive outing has significantly boosted Nigeria’s qualification hopes, pushing the team up to 12th place in the World Relays rankings and strengthening their bid for a place among the world’s elite.
Kenya also impressed in the race, finishing second with a National Record time of 41.70 seconds, underlining the growing competitiveness of the event on the continent.
This historic achievement positions Team Nigeria as a dominant force in the mixed 4x100m relay as they head toward the global stage in Botswana. By securing both a continental record and a higher qualification ranking, the quartet has signaled their readiness to compete with the best in the world.
