At the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, Nigerian athlete Nathaniel Ezekiel of Baylor University made history in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Ezekiel clocked a blistering 47.86 seconds in the semifinals, setting a new Nigerian national record and becoming the first athlete in NCAA Championship history to run a sub-48-second semifinal in this event.
This remarkable performance not only secured Ezekiel's spot in the final but also reaffirmed his status as a leading contender for the national title. His time surpassed his previous personal best of 47.89 seconds, which he set earlier in the season at the Big 12 Championships. With this achievement, Ezekiel now holds the seventh, eighth, and ninth fastest times in NCAA 400-meter hurdles history.
Despite the immense pressure and expectations, Ezekiel remains composed and focused. He attributes his success to maintaining a relaxed mindset, stating, "The minute I start thinking about pressure is the minute I start losing it. I am just going to go out there, do the best that I can do and have fun with it."
As Ezekiel prepares for the final, all eyes will be on this Nigerian talent, whose journey from the Big 12 Championships to the NCAA finals has been nothing short of extraordinary. His performance serves as an inspiration to athletes worldwide, showcasing the power of dedication, resilience, and a calm mind in the face of competition.
