Posted : 13 November 2025

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has officially unveiled the composition of its Board Committees for the 2025–2029 administrative cycle, marking a key step in strengthening governance, accountability, and technical development in Nigeria’s aquatic sports sector.

In a detailed statement signed by President Dr. Dunkwu Nnamdi Chamberlain (PhD, KSC), NAqF revealed appointments across 15 specialized committees, designed to ensure inclusiveness, efficiency, and professional oversight in alignment with international best practices. Dr. Chamberlain will supervise all committees to guarantee seamless coordination and alignment with the Federation’s strategic objectives.

The Finance Committee, responsible for financial prudence and transparency, is chaired by Alhassan Mogaji, with Babatunde Fatai-Williams as Vice Chair, and members including Maina Modu Kyari, Lt. Labake Oriretan, Alfred Mboto, and Taiwo Oriss as Secretary. The Budget Committee is led by Joseph Odobeatu, assisted by Chinwoke Jecinta Williams and Oriss as Secretary.

The Technical Committee, a cornerstone for competitive excellence, is chaired by Ms. Obia Inyengiyikabo, with Jiddah Dakwal as Vice Chair, and includes seasoned members like Babatunde Henry Omoyele, Emmanuel Emefuna, and Basil Nwoye. The School Sports and Higher Institutions Development Committee, led by Suleiman Usman Omeiza, will focus on grassroots talent and partnerships with educational institutions.

Other key committees include the Coaches Committee chaired by Coach Ita Agbor, the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee led by Florence Yori, and the Marketing and Sponsorship Committee under Maina Modu Kyari. The Media and Publicity Committee will manage communications, with Adebayo Abdulrasaq Owolabi as Vice Chair and Taiwo Oriss as Secretary. Safety and athlete welfare will be overseen by the Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Committee and the Medical and Doping Control Committee, chaired by Babtunde Fatai-Williams and Dr. Babatunde Henry Omoyele, respectively.

For facilities and event security, Pst. N.S. Jesimiel heads the Facilities Committee, while Lt. Cdr. Labake Oriretan leads the Security Committee. Athlete representation is ensured through the Athletes Committee, chaired by Eric Williams with Major Gloria Mbah as Vice Chair.

NAqF has also established three technical sub-committees for Swimming (Jiddah Dakwal), Water Polo (Adebayo Owolabi Wopa), and Open Water Swimming (Lanre Saidi), tasked with talent development, structured competition calendars, and national training programs.

Dr. Chamberlain emphasized that the committee appointments reflect “competence, integrity, and commitment to elevating Nigeria’s status in global aquatic sports,” assuring stakeholders of continued collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Sports Development and international partners like World Aquatics. The newly announced committees mark a major milestone in NAqF’s roadmap toward institutional stability, athlete growth, and enhanced global representation over the next four years.
