The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have commenced high-level discussions as Lagos intensifies preparations to host the 2026 National Intermediate Games for Under-18 athletes.
The LSSC delegation, led by Director General Lekan Fatodu, was received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Prof. Foluso Lesi, at the Senate Building of the university.
Both teams, comprising senior officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission and members of the UNILAG Sports Council, engaged in discussions highlighting their shared commitment to delivering a world-class sporting event that aligns with Lagos’ vision of excellence in sports development.
Lagos State has successfully hosted numerous high-profile sporting events in recent years, attracting athletes from across the globe. Notable events include Game X, the Festival of Table Tennis, the African Senior Fencing Championship, the Zen Archery Lagos International Open, and the Africa School Games, establishing Lagos as a premier destination for sports promotion in Nigeria and across Africa.
The meeting concluded with a resolution to establish joint working teams and timelines to ensure seamless coordination ahead of the Games, reinforcing Lagos State’s ambition to deliver a well-organised, athlete-centred, and impactful National Intermediate Games that will contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s sports development pipeline.
