Preparations for the 11th Lagos Women Run have entered a decisive phase, with organisers fixing November 14 for the 2026 edition of the annual 10km road race.
The event is expected to attract female runners from across Nigeria and beyond, reinforcing its position as a major platform for promoting women’s participation in athletics.
Coordinator of the race, Tayo Popoola, disclosed on Monday that the official countdown would begin on Wednesday, October 14, exactly one month before the competition.
Popoola spoke after a meeting with agencies involved in organising the race, expressing the organisers’ determination to deliver an improved experience for participants.
“We have been working hard and in our usual way, we want this edition to be better than the last, we just have to keep improving on what we are doing,” she said.
She added that all runners who complete the race would receive medals, alongside jerseys, sports bags and other items.
Registration for the event began in August and remains open, with organisers continuing to receive entries from interested participants across different locations.
Lagos State Sports Council Director-General Lekan Fatodu, a keen supporter of the initiative, is also expected to contribute to efforts to strengthen the annual event.
Tafawa Balewa Square will serve as both the starting point and finishing venue for the race, which organisers describe as the biggest women’s running event in sub-Saharan Africa.
With the countdown underway, the organisers are working towards another successful edition that will encourage fitness, promote women’s athletics and build on the event’s growing profile.
