Speaking during a press briefing held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, to announce the milestone edition, Fatodu described Lagos as privileged to host an initiative that transcends sports and impacts every sector of society.
“This year’s theme, ‘One Run, a Thousand Opportunities,’ is both symbolic and timely. It reminds us that a single act of running can open countless doors for self-discovery, inclusion, and collective progress among women,” Fatodu stated.
He explained that every stride taken by women during the race represents the numerous opportunities available to them, reflecting their capacity to influence and create positive change across various spheres of life.
Fatodu further noted that over the years, the Lagos Women Run has evolved from a modest fitness initiative into one of the most recognized and unifying events for women across Nigeria and beyond.
According to the Coordinator of the Lagos Women Run, Tayo Popoola, this year’s 10th anniversary marks a major milestone that highlights the event’s sustainability and continued relevance, largely supported by the Lagos State Government.
“The Lagos Women Run has grown into a global event, attracting women from diverse backgrounds. This year’s theme truly captures the spirit of empowerment and opportunity that the event stands for,” Popoola said.
Also speaking, U-Meleni Mhlaba Adebo, the ambassador for the 2025 Lagos Women Run 10km race, expressed excitement about returning for the anniversary edition.
“My first experience running in Lagos last year was incredible. As a Zimbabwean married to a Yoruba man, it was a special opportunity to connect with the city and its vibrant energy,” Adebo shared.
With over 8,000 registered participants, the 10th edition of the Lagos Women Run promises to be a memorable celebration of unity, empowerment, and the enduring spirit of women in sports and society.
