Lagos Gov. restates commitment to successful hosting of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon

Posted : 10 February 2024

The newly appointed Director-General (D-G) of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr. Lekan Fatodun, restated the commitment of the state government on Friday to achieving a successful hosting of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Fatodun gave the assurance on the sidelines of the 2024 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon press briefing held at Access Bank headquarters, Oniru, Victoria Island.

As part of the activities marking the 9th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, the organizers have arranged a press briefing to showcase what to expect in the nine-year-long event.

The Sports Commission D-G said that the Lagos State government has been at the forefront of supporting various sports, given its many benefits to the populace.

"Lagos has been using sport as a vehicle to promote peace, cohesion, and unity. The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon means a lot to the state.

"Lagos State is the epicenter of great things, and supporting the race is part of what we are doing in terms of logistics, technical aspects, and ensuring that the environment is suitable and comfortable for athletes.

"Now we have about 3,000 runners for the race from Nigeria and also foreign runners, so we are creating a society like a magnet that attracts good things.

"We also have some assurances that some runners who have come to Nigeria are also considering the business side of the race by investing in Nigeria," he said.

The Technical Director of the marathon, Yusuf Alli, said that the race's upgrade from Gold Label to Platinum Label is within reach.

He mentioned that all the facilities necessary to help the race achieve the next level label have been put in place, and the world A-list long-distance runners are also increasing.
