Great Britain Wins Gold in Women’s 4x100m at World Relay Championships

Posted : 12 May 2025

Success Eduan delivered an impressive performance in the final leg of the women’s 4x100m relay at the World Relay Championships in Guangzhou, China, securing Great Britain’s gold medal. On her senior international debut, the 20-year-old sprinted past Jamaica's Shericka Jackson and Spain’s Maria Perez to help the GB team, which also included Nia Wedderburn-Goodison, Amy Hunt, and Bianca Williams, finish in 42.21 seconds.

Spain took the silver in 42.28, while Jamaica, with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in their team, settled for third place in 42.33.

Reflecting on her win, Eduan expressed confidence in her approach, stating that she focused on giving her best performance without worrying about her competitors. “I have a mentality of a winner,” Eduan said, highlighting her determination to push past even elite athletes like Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Her victorious mindset helped secure the win for the British team, who triumphed in a dramatic final stretch.

In addition to the gold, Great Britain also claimed a bronze in the inaugural mixed 4x100m relay. The team, featuring Asha Philip, Kissiwaa Mensah, Jeriel Quainoo, and Joe Ferguson, clocked 40.88 seconds to finish behind Canada (40.30) and Jamaica (40.44). Meanwhile, the United States set a new championship record in the mixed 4x400m, completing their race in 3:09.54.

On the men’s side, South Africa won the 4x100m gold with a time of 37.61 seconds. However, drama unfolded as Jamaica failed to qualify for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo after dropping a baton during a heat and subsequently not finishing in the qualifying heat.

Jamaica still has a chance to qualify based on world rankings. South Africa also claimed the 4x400m men’s gold with a time of 2:57.50, while Spain triumphed in the women’s 4x400m with a time of 3:24.13.
