Gout Gout Expands Challenge to 4x400m Relay While Targeting 200m Gold at U20 Worlds

Posted : 12 May 2026

Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout is set to take on a new challenge at the upcoming Under-20 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where he will compete in both the 200m and the 4x400m relay.

The 18-year-old, who has rapidly emerged as one of the brightest talents in world athletics, will be aiming for gold in the 200m while also contributing to Australia’s relay team on the final day of the competition. His inclusion in the relay marks a new step in his development as a versatile sprinter.

Gout recently stunned the athletics world by setting a new under-20 world record of 19.67 seconds in the 200m at the Australian Championships in Sydney. That performance not only secured him national glory but also confirmed his status as one of the fastest young sprinters in history.

He has chosen to focus on the U20 championships in Oregon, opting out of other international events to concentrate on his performance in the United States. The championships will be held at the iconic Hayward Field, a venue known for producing fast times and historic performances.

Confident about his preparation, Gout expressed excitement about competing on the global stage, saying he is eager to perform well and represent Australia with pride. His decision to also run in the relay follows Australia’s recent success in the 4x400m event at the World Relays.

Gout first gained international attention at the 2024 U20 World Championships, where he won silver in the 200m at just 16 years old. Since then, he has continued to draw comparisons with sprint legends, including Usain Bolt, particularly as he targets dominance in both the 100m and 200m events in the future.
