Team Nigeria has received a significant boost ahead of the 2026 World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, with top sprinter Favour Ashe rejoining the national setup.
Ashe, who had earlier explored a switch of allegiance to Qatar, has now reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria and is set to feature prominently at the global event.
The 100m star, one of the few active Nigerian athletes to have dipped below the 10-second mark, is expected to add firepower to Nigeria’s relay teams as they aim for a strong outing in Botswana.
Sources indicate that Ashe is already on his way to Gaborone, where he will link up with the rest of the squad as final preparations gather momentum.
In a show of administrative backing, the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Tonobok Okowa, is also travelling with the team, underlining the importance attached to the competition.
Nigeria will be looking to leverage Ashe’s speed and experience as they compete against the world’s best in the highly anticipated championships.
The reintegration of such a high-caliber sprinter significantly enhances the nation's medal prospects and overall team morale. With administrative support and a revitalized roster, the squad is well-positioned to make a lasting impression on the international stage in Botswana.
