Former World 800m Champion Pierre-Ambroise Bosse receives one-year ban for missed drug tests

Posted : 25 April 2024

France's former world 800m champion Pierre-Ambroise Bosse, who retired in December due to recurring injuries, received a one-year ban from the French anti-doping agency for missing three drug tests spanning from September 2022 to June 2023.

Bosse's retirement announcement came just seven months before the Paris Olympics, citing persistent injuries, particularly in his right thigh, which led to his absence from competition since April 2023.

Despite his notable achievements, including a fourth-place finish at the 2016 Rio Olympics and being crowned world champion in 2017, Bosse's career trajectory has been marred by struggles to regain top form, as evidenced by his early elimination at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

Throughout his career, Bosse has achieved notable success, including bronze medals at the European championships in 2012 and 2018.

However, his inability to overcome recurring injuries and regain peak performance led to his retirement and subsequent disciplinary action from the anti-doping agency for missing drug tests.

Despite his setbacks, Bosse's legacy in the world of athletics remains significant, marked by his achievements on the track and his status as a former world champion in the 800m event.
